Let The Music PLAY….

Let the MUSIC Play!
Watershed 2019 Day 1

I can remember the first time I was asked to photograph a music event, the rush of having a Press Pass, the throb of the crowd as they counted down till their favorite act walked across the stage and took us all on a journey that only live music can. There is something about being with ten thousand plus of your dearest friends, singing at the top of our lungs off key, hands in the air, tall can by our sides, and memories being made to last a lifetime. I know personally that music is the soundtrack to my soul, and those special songs are time machines that can invoke time travel to special moments in my life that can never be replaced. First kisses, meeting your future husband or wife, bromances blossoming, and the memories that are so precious you only share them with those that were there and the secret place in your heart!

Many years later, I have photographed some of the most famous people on the planet, but the show stopper pictures that resonate in my soul are the ones with the special moments of any event with the crowd. You know the ones where you capture a couples first kiss, when he proposes, the high five with their idol, the hush of the crowd as the tear jerking love ballets starts as the house lights go dark and the lead singer is illuminated by a lone spotlight with the whole world focused on the sweet voice of love coming from the microphone. Those are the moments that capture a fan and holds them forever in THAT moment for the rest of their lives.

As we are forced into a world where there is no music being played other then via social distancing through video, make shift events, parking lot parties, and illegal gatherings of 10 people or more. I do not know about anyone else, but I personally need music to continue my journey of life. We are social creatures by nature and crave the interactions that can only come through live events that involve, you, me, vendors, tall cans, roaming community shots, and so much more. LET THE MUSIC PLAY! That is the motto that I have taken up like a mantra in hopes and pure belief that I haven’t seen my last show.

One thing this society shut down has taught this photographer was to not take for granted one note of music. To cherish each note like it may be my last because you never know if it might. We are forever in a daily gift of 24 hours to make the most of those 24 hours, and personally I want my 24 hours everyday to have the baddest soundtrack ever. I know that music will always be around in our hearts, our spirits, and in our memories, we just need it to be allowed to be played loud and hard for thousands to enjoy, dance in their seats, sing along, and play the beat to their own drums. With music in your heart, anything is possible, without it, well lets just agree, a world without music is not a world this photographer doesn’t want to be apart of.

Staying Connected: Quarantine and Life Alike By: Makayla Danielle

Staying connected to others is an important part of healing, recovering, and life in general. We thrive off these connections, we depend on them, especially when going through hard times.

Recently the quarantine has thrown the whole world into hard times. Keeping up with connections can be tough when life’s responsibilities need attention, but once the quarantine hit we weren’t given a choice. Even if free time was available to nurture those connections, we were forced to stay indoors and stay away from friends and family.

This isolation has caused feelings of loneliness in a lot of us.

Feelings of loneliness can lead us to sink deeper into our anxiety and depression.

This can be especially frustrating when we have worked so hard to overcome these feelings. So how are we to maintain the strength of those connections when we can’t come together for social interaction? How do we stay out of our shell when that is the only place we are “allowed” to be? What can we do to overcome the dark cloud of depression?

First things first, practice self-evaluating. Check in with yourself to see how you’re feeling that day. Are you feeling extra lonely? Is depression creeping back up and weighing heavy on your mind? The minute you realize that you’re falling into that black hole of isolation, take a step towards climbing out. Even if it’s just a baby step, take it. Take a shower. Step outside into the sunshine. This will help you get grounded and take the next step to nurture those connections with your loved ones.

Next, look at social media as a tool you can use to stay connected. Go on Facebook and see what your friends have been up to lately. Watch those Instagram stories and laugh at all the antics your nieces and nephews have been up to. Bring some light and laughter into your world. Let that lighten the load of the depression and loneliness you’ve been feeling.

Send a message or a text to your circle of friends. Maybe they’ve been feeling lonely just like you. It’s possible you’ve been isolating yourselves and retreating back into your shells together without even knowing it! During these days of lock-down, plan a virtual hangout. This gives you that connection while still adhering to the “stay at home” orders. Zoom and Skype are free and easy to use and amazing resources for staying connected. Hop on a video call with a group of your friends and make dinner together, have a drink, or just sit and chat about how you’ve been feeling lately. This can be therapeutic and help relieve those feelings of loneliness.

Once this lock-down is over you can nurture your friendships through face-to-face coffee dates, dinner dates, or however you choose to get out of the house! But in the meantime, remind yourself why you connected with your friends in the first place. Common interests, dislikes, understanding of the difficulties with mental health. You bonded with your people because they understand you. Don’t let the bad days cause you to forget that solid fact. Reach out, whether it be through social media, text, or a phone call. Let them know you are struggling and I guarantee your friends will understand. They will be there to support you and help you get through those hard times. A pesky quarantine can’t destroy the bonds you have created. Don’t give it the power to make you believe otherwise.

LOVEWINS OFFICIAL

I just wanted to take the time to thank each and everyone of you who has made LOVEWINS what it is today. I started this movement to let the world know that on the night of October 1st, 2017 that even though we were witnessing the worse humanity had to offer with the mission of one man. I saw thousands answer back in one voice that we would not lay down and let evil win. I saw the best of humanity as we fought back as one and made sure that we saved as many as we could. The 58 Angels that we lost that night and the thousands who were affected by this event would not be forgotten. We will strive to make sure that never happens. We have just completed our 1st Annual Holiday Drive that ran from November 1 to December 10, 2017, where Point of Contacts gathered, sponsored and helped out over 100 families and counting. WE have raised over $10,000.00 as of the writing of this blog that has gone directly to helping the families with everything from something as simple as flowers for a grieving mother or spouse, to complete holidays. We realize that these things can’t replace or heal those injured, but we believe that if we can help if even for a moment then we have done our job. Thank you to everyone who has helped, my admin team, the Board of Directors, and each and every LOVEWINS WARRIORS who have vowed to not let evil win! I am humbled by the love ands response we have received on our mission.

“A random act of kindness WILL change the world!”
